What is a Fire Door?
A fire door is not just a conventional door, it is a complete door assembly which consists of door frame, any glazing, fire and smoke seals and all ironmongery on the door including hinges, door closures and latches etc.
The purpose of a fire door is the following:
- Keep the fire in a certain area and help starve the fire of oxygen.
- Ensure persons are protected in other areas of the burning building.
- Increase the amount of time it takes for the fire to spread.
In short, a fire door is one of the most important aspects of fire safety. So to ensure that your fire doors are fit for purpose you need to ensure that they are inspected as outlined in The Fire Safety Regulations 2022 which came into force on 23rd January 2023.
