Fire Prevention and Risk Assessment

Fire Prevention & Risk Assessment Services

OJ Health and Safety provides businesses with a wide range of services to help deal with fire prevention, including a Fire Risk Assessment.

On October 1st 2006, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety Order) came into force. This is a major change in legislation putting the legal requirement to create Fire and prevention Risk Assessments upon ‘The Responsible Person’ within a business and scrapping the old fire certificates, which historically had been completed by the local Fire Service. The new fire regulations were introduced to simplify matters, to take the pressure and responsibility away from the Fire Service

What is a Fire Risk Assessment?

A fire risk assessment examines the set of practices intended to reduce the damage, destruction and possible loss of life caused by fire. Fire safety measures include those that are intended to prevent the ignition of an uncontrolled fire.

Additionally, fire risk assessments also relates to limiting the development and effects of a fire after it starts. Fires can ignite and burn quickly, but there are multiple ways to stop the initial ignition and to minimise the spread.

What will OJ Health and Safety do?

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety Order) applies to all commercial premises, including the common parts of blocks of flats and houses in multiple occupations (HMOs).

The law applies to you if you are:

  • Responsible for business premises
  • An employer or self-employed with business premises
  • Responsible for a part of a dwelling, where that part is solely used for business purposes
  • A charity or voluntary organisation
  • A contractor with a degree of control over any premises
  • Providing accommodation for paying guests
  • Fire remains potentially the most damaging and disruptive event that any business can face. A devastating fire will almost inevitably lead to a loss of production or productive activity, which can lead to a loss of orders, customers, and mostly, jobs.

Here at OJ Health and Safety, we provide a wide range of services. These include: fire extinguisher installation and servicing, fire risk assessments as well as PAT Testing and Fire Warden training. Our assessments are tailored to your business and our efforts are focused on building an easy-to-use, action-based document.
