The reason you must undertake a management asbestos survey is to identify the location, type, condition and extent of any Asbestos Containing Materials present. The HMO Asbestos survey must be be in accordance with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidance note HSG264:

Asbestos Management Survey – Previously called a Type 2. Its purpose of a asbestos management survey is to locate the presence, extent and condition of the ACM's in your HMO.
Pre-Refurbishment Asbestos Survey – Previously known as a Type 3 survey. Prior to any refurbishment work being undertaken in your HMO, a refurbishment & demolition survey is required.
Pre-Demolition Asbestos Survey – This also replaces the old Type 3 survey. Prior to demolition work being carried out, a refurbishment and demolition survey must be completed.
Asbestos Re-inspection Services – Once any ACM's have been identified, it is your responsibility as the landlord to inspect these items (at least annually) and develop a Asbestos Management Plan.
